Five weeks ago I told readers gold looked like a short. Every mechanism agreed with itself: a stack of planets in Cancer, a weak Venus, the kind of setup that usually means down. It got stopped out in eight sessions. Then gold ran 8.25% the other way.

Now we’re looking at almost the same picture. A New Moon lands with a partial solar eclipse on August 12, and the astrology is negative again, on gold, silver, and five of the six major global indices. But the charts are telling a different story. Ten of the eleven markets in this issue are sitting inside confirmed uptrends. Only Bitcoin isn’t.

That gap, seven markets where the sky and the chart disagree, is the whole story of this window. Here’s how I’m reading it, market by market.

A quick note before we start: the eclipse and the New Moon are the same event, not two. Both land at 17:36:43 UTC on August 12. Counting them separately is the easiest way to double the risk that’s actually there. There’s a second eclipse on August 28, a lunar one, and it’s a different animal, one that matters mostly for gold.

This edition covers August 7 through September 1, 2026. Every level and every call below expires on September 1. Prices are marks taken August 12 at 10:00 UTC (15:30 IST). Gold and silver are front month futures, not spot.

Nifty 50: boxed into 77 points, and it’s the shakiest uptrend in the book

Nifty is at 24,435.95, stuck in a tight 77 point band. Support sits at 24,405, resistance at 24,482. The weekly trend is mixed, not bullish, and trend strength is low, which makes this the least trustworthy uptrend of anything I cover here. A break out of that band is more likely to be noise than a real move.

The eclipse lands on a Moon placement that historically reads as deceptive, the kind of signal that says avoid new longs rather than go short. There’s a positive reading tied to the eclipse itself, but it runs through the same weakened Jupiter that’s dragging on everything else this cycle, so I wouldn’t lean on it.

The call: stay conservative from August 12 through 14. Don’t chase either direction inside the band. If it breaks down, the next reference point is 24,129.54. Reassess August 28, expires September 1.

Bank Nifty: the cleanest setup in this whole edition

Bank Nifty is at 57,885.85, up 0.77%. This is the one market where the timing and the price level actually agree with each other. The pattern points to a swing top dated August 11 to 13, and that window opens right underneath the heaviest resistance on the chart, 58,212 to 58,713.

The call: take profits into that 58,212 to 58,713 zone. Don’t chase strength up there. Trend strength here is the weakest of anything I track, which tells me that resistance is more likely to hold than break. If Bank Nifty closes a daily session above 58,713, the top pattern has failed and this call is done.

Reassess August 28 and again around the Moon-Saturn contact on August 31. Expires September 1.

S&P 500: no signal of its own, just the shared caution

S&P sits at 7,728.20. Nothing specific fires for this index alone. The negative read across US and European markets this cycle comes from one planet, Saturn, showing up the same way on five separate charts. That’s one signal wearing five names, not five confirmations, so I wouldn’t treat it as strong.

Support is 7,577 to 7,621, with a downside reference at 7,605.42. Resistance is thin from here, the only real ceiling nearby is the 52 week high at 7,793.68.

The call: smaller size, no new longs into August 12 and 13. Not a short. Reassess August 28, expires September 1.

Nasdaq: the bullish rule that needed a condition it doesn’t have

Nasdaq is at 26,445.45. There’s a rule that can flag a New Moon bottom here, but it needs Venus sitting in a specific favorable placement, and Venus is weak right now, in Virgo instead. So that bottom signal simply doesn’t fire this cycle.

Support is 26,283 to 26,319. Resistance comes in two steps, 26,707 to 26,789, then 27,146 to 27,263.

The call: same as the S&P, smaller size and no fresh longs into the 12th and 13th, not a short. Reassess August 28, expires September 1.

Dow Jones: two signals that cancel each other out

Dow is at 53,791.85. One reading here points to a swing bottom, another points to caution from the eclipse timing. They contradict, so my confidence on this one is genuinely low. What I’d pay more attention to is the weekly RSI at 71.4, the most stretched reading on any higher timeframe chart in this edition.

Support is 52,656 to 52,949. Resistance is 54,744 to 55,083.

The call: treat the overbought weekly RSI as the real signal here, not the astrology. Small size, no chasing strength. Reassess August 28, expires September 1.

FTSE 100: a signal that literally cannot happen this cycle

FTSE is at 10,854.57, and it has the strongest trend of anything I track this edition. Support is 10,747 to 10,836, resistance is 10,898 to 10,990.

Here’s the strange part. FTSE has its own rule that gives extra weight to lunar timing when Saturn is involved, and that exact contact falls on August 31 at 03:18 UTC. The London Stock Exchange is closed that day for the Summer Bank Holiday. The next session is September 1, the day this whole window expires.

The call: there’s no FTSE session where that signal can actually play out. Don’t wait for it. Trade the range instead, 10,747 to 10,836 on the low side, 10,898 to 10,990 on the high side.

DAX 40: the most stretched pairing in this edition

DAX is at 26,494.78, sitting roughly 7.6% above its 200 day average with an RSI of 73.0. That’s overbought against a negative astrological read, and price is parked right inside resistance at 26,445 to 26,642, which contains the 52 week high. The nearest real support is far below, 25,855 to 25,968, with a downside reference at 26,084.30.

The call: when a chart is this stretched and the signal is this negative, the distance between them is the risk, in either direction. Stay cautious August 12 and 13, and again through the stretch from the 17th to the 25th.

ASX 200: the tightest astronomical contact in the book, and it’s neutral

ASX is at 9,209.40. The Moon to Jupiter contact was just 0.011 degrees from exact at the Australian open, the tightest single alignment anywhere in this edition. But Jupiter is weakened by its closeness to the Sun, which takes the edge off what would otherwise be a strong signal.

ASX is the one index that escapes the shared negative read this cycle, on a mechanism of its own tied to Saturn. It’s also the only market here where the astrology and the chart don’t actually disagree, mostly because the astrology isn’t pointing anywhere strong enough to disagree with.

The call: resistance is 9,297 to 9,336, which contains the 52 week high. Support is 8,902 to 8,984. No strong directional lean either way.

Gold: the most negative read in the book, and I’m still not shorting it

Gold is at 4,475.20. Four things line up against it going into August 12: a heavy cluster of planets in Cancer, a weak Venus in Virgo, Mercury sitting in a nakshatra called Pushya, and Saturn retrograde. Jupiter is technically in a strong position in Cancer and would normally soften a stack like that, but it’s sitting less than ten degrees from the Sun, which in Vedic astrology means it’s too close to function properly. A weakened protector doesn’t protect anything.

Here’s the part that keeps me from acting on any of that. The Moon on event day is also in Pushya, and Pushya is traditionally considered the single best nakshatra for buying, not selling. And the chart backs that up: gold’s in a confirmed uptrend with RSI at 71.2, overbought, sitting right inside resistance at 4,465.97 to 4,513.54, which contains its 200 day average of 4,483.48.

The call: don’t short it, and don’t chase it either. This exact setup, heavy Cancer cluster, weak Venus, negative read, has now failed four New Moons running. The most recent attempt ran 8.25% against the short in eight sessions. A negative signal that keeps failing to produce a down move stops being a signal worth trading. But I also wouldn’t add longs here. You’d be buying into resistance at RSI 71.2 with the astrology still negative through August 16.

Hold what you have. The realistic read for this cycle is a pause between the 12th and the 16th, not a top.

• Resistance: 4,465 to 4,513. Where price sits right now. A hold above this kills the negative read outright.

• First support: 4,363 to 4,415. The target if this turns into a shallow pullback.

• Deeper support: 4,305 to 4,358. This is gold’s 200 day average. Only relevant if the window actually bites.

One more thing worth flagging: gold’s own historical pattern flips on August 28. There’s a rule that says don’t short gold, and it needs the Moon and Sun within 5 degrees of opposition. That condition is met on the 28th, and nowhere else in this window. Anyone still short into that date is fighting gold’s own history, not just the chart.

Silver: it looks weak, but there’s nothing solid behind it

Silver is at 66.64, up 1.66%, holding above its 200 day average of 65.51.

The negative read on silver comes from three background conditions rather than one clean trigger, and the strongest of the three has a genuinely mixed track record, marking a top in 1919 and a bottom in 1932 on the same configuration. That’s not a signal I’d trade on its own.

The call: stay out. No short, and no reason to go long yet either. A short here was tried five weeks ago on a nearly identical reading. It was stopped out in two days, then silver ran almost 12% the other way.

• Resistance: 70.41 to 70.95. Contains the 200 day average. A weekly close above it ends the weak read completely.

• Support: 65.05 to 66.01. The first real test, sitting just beneath current price.

• Deeper support: 61.80 to 62.62. Where an actual breakdown would head.

Treat silver as a range between 65 and 70.95 until one side breaks. My confidence in the weak read drops further after August 18, when Jupiter shifts into a new position, so if the downside hasn’t shown up by then, it probably isn’t coming this window.

Bitcoin: one good session, and it’s fighting the tape to get it

Bitcoin is at 64,054.78, and it’s the mirror image of everything else in this edition, the only market where the astrology is more positive than the chart.

A specific Moon placement opens a one session constructive window on August 12, because the same combustion that’s weakening Jupiter elsewhere has actually released some pressure here. But that window closes at 12:00 UTC on August 13, when the Moon moves into its next position. After that, the read turns firmly negative for the rest of this cycle, the sharpest single reversal of anything I track this edition.

And it’s happening against a downtrend. Bitcoin is bearish on daily, weekly, and monthly charts, sitting below both its 200 day average (72,488.76) and its 200 day simple moving average (69,747.24).

The call: if you’re trading the one session bounce, expect slippage and use a wider stop than usual. This is not a swing setup, it’s a single session window with a hard deadline.

• Support: 62,227 to 62,914.

• Resistance: 66,910.

• Hard invalidation: August 13, 12:00 UTC. Past that, the positive case is gone.

The calendar

• August 7 (Friday): window opens.

• August 11 (Tuesday): Moon-Mercury contact, 13:41 UTC.

• August 12 (Wednesday): New Moon and partial solar eclipse, 17:36:43 UTC. This is the main event.

• August 13 (Thursday): Moon-Ketu contact, 10:47 UTC. Bitcoin’s one session window closes at 12:00 UTC.

• August 14 (Friday): an ordinary session, nothing structural fires.

• August 15 to 16 (weekend): Mercury-Jupiter and Moon-Venus contacts, relevant to Bitcoin only since it’s the sole market that trades through the weekend. These map back to Friday the 14th and forward to Monday the 17th for everything else.

• August 17 (Monday): the Sun shifts into Leo, and both Jupiter and Mercury’s weakened states begin to clear. Every single reading in this edition improves on this date. It is not a green light, more on that below.

• August 18 (Tuesday): Jupiter shifts position, which lowers confidence in silver’s weak read from here on.

• August 22 to 23 (weekend): Mercury shifts into Leo, and the Sun meets Ketu almost exactly, the tightest contact in the whole window. This maps to Friday the 21st and Monday the 24th for markets that don’t trade weekends.

• August 25 (Tuesday): Mercury meets Ketu, closing out the sequence that opened on the 12th.

• August 27 (Thursday): Sun-Mercury and Moon-Rahu contacts, an hour apart.

• August 28 (Friday): partial lunar eclipse, 04:18:32 UTC. This is the date gold’s short veto fires.

• August 31 (Monday): Moon-Saturn contact at 03:18 UTC, Jupiter-Saturn trine that evening. London is closed for the Bank Holiday.

• September 1 (Tuesday): the window closes. Every call in this edition expires.

Why the 17th is a trap, not a recovery

Three things shift at once on August 17: the Sun moves into Leo, Jupiter’s weakened state clears, and Mercury’s begins. Every single reading in this edition gets better that day, gold, the Indian indices, the US and European indices, all of it.

Don’t read that as a turn. The Sun is walking straight toward an almost exact meeting with Ketu on August 22, and Leo’s ruling nakshatra this cycle is tied to Ketu as well. The readings improve because each piece is firing on its own schedule, but the sequence they’re sitting inside is a five day approach to the most exact contact of the whole window. I’d treat August 17 through 25 as a transition stretch, not a signal to add exposure.

Gold’s improvement here is the clearest example. That’s a negative structure easing off, not a structure turning positive.

Pull up whatever you’re actually holding right now, gold, Bank Nifty, Bitcoin, anything on this list, and check where your stop sits relative to the nearest support level above. If you don’t have a stop set, this window is your reason to set one. It’s not a reason to open something new.

Jupiter and the Sun sit on the exact same degree at this Full Moon. Zero degrees apart, as close as these two ever get. Jupiter is normally the planet almost every one of my bullish gold and crude calls leans on, and here it gets completely burned out by the Sun for the entire two weeks ahead. That one fact touches nearly every market in this piece.

On top of that, Venus falls hard on August 1, Saturn is standing still in the sky (which amplifies whatever it’s already doing), and this waning cycle doesn’t end in a quiet New Moon. It ends in a partial solar eclipse on August 12, in the same sign Jupiter is sitting burned in.

None of that is a coincidence I can wave away. So let’s get into what it means for your positions.

The Big Picture First

Here’s the backdrop that shapes almost every call below.

Jupiter is exalted in Cancer right now, which is normally excellent news. But it sits at zero degrees from the Sun on Full Moon day itself, completely burned out. Every rule in my playbook that leans on Jupiter’s strength goes quiet for this whole cycle, across every single market. Jupiter doesn’t recover until August 14, two days after this cycle closes.

Saturn is a different story. It’s genuinely strong right now: sitting in a friendly sign, standing still in the sky (it just turned retrograde on July 26), which amplifies its effect through July 31. Saturn is the one planet doing clean, uncomplicated work in this chart.

Then Venus falls apart. It moves from a strong placement in Leo into a weak one in Virgo on August 1, and that single move is the biggest driver of gold’s entire two weeks.

Last piece: this cycle doesn’t fade out into an ordinary New Moon. It ends on August 12 with a partial solar eclipse, landing in the same sign where Jupiter sits burned. That’s the day several of the calls below flip, some up, some down, depending on the market.

Try this: before reading further, write down which of your current positions depends on Jupiter being strong right now. If gold, crude, or an India-linked bet is on that list, that’s the one to reread most carefully below.

Fair question. I went back and rechecked the sky for that date, planet by planet, no shortcuts. The date I flagged was correct. My read on it was not. And once I fixed that, the whole picture for this autumn got sharper. Not vaguer. Sharper. Real numbers, not just a directional hunch.

Where Things Stand Right Now

Gold is trading around $4,068 as of July 25. That’s 14% off its spring high near $4,720. Trend down. Sitting below every major moving average. Not a healthy chart, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise.

Silver’s worse. Around $58.70, roughly 27% off its spring peak near $80. Of the two metals, silver’s taking the bigger hit right now, and there’s a specific reason for that. I’ll get to it.

Bitcoin’s bouncing inside a broken trend. Doesn’t look like a real reversal yet. Might not be one at all.

None of this happened by accident. It traces back to the lunar nodes, and to a three-part support structure for metals that’s about to fail all at once.

Try This: Pull up a gold or silver chart. Mark August 1. That’s when this setup opened. Everything since has been the story below, playing out in real time, in front of you.

Forget the Equinox. Watch Late October.

Roughly every 18 months, the two lunar nodes shift into new positions and camp out there for months. On August 1, one of them moved into a spot traditionally read as good for gold and silver. Wealth zone. Appetite zone.

On paper, metals should be running higher into year end.

They’re not. Gold’s down 14%. Silver’s down 27%. So what gives?

That’s the real story of this autumn. And it’s a story about support failing, not demand vanishing.

The Amplifier Plugged Into a Broken Socket

That wealth-friendly setup only works if the planet ruling it is strong. It isn’t, or won’t be for long. From September 24 through November 13, that planet hits its single weakest position of the entire year.

For the first five weeks, a second, more generous planet sits alongside it and softens the blow. Then that cushion leaves. October 31. Gone.

Two more planets that usually back metals flip into reverse in the same stretch. One, tied directly to silver, stalls and turns backward on October 2, then drifts into its own weakest spot through mid-November. That’s the mechanical reason silver’s down 27% while gold’s down 14%. Not a coincidence. Cause and effect.

The other, linked to the placement Saturn’s currently retrograding through, turns backward on October 23.

Add it up. Late September through mid-November: every single support for metals is either weak or moving in reverse. All at once. That’s why gold and silver keep sliding through October even though the bigger structural picture is technically bullish. An amplifier plugged into a broken socket doesn’t amplify anything. Doesn’t matter how good the wiring looks on paper.

October 31: The Day the Support Gives Way

One planet’s been acting like a firewall all summer, holding market confidence up in general. Strongest possible position, from spring through October 30.

Then it leaves. Lands directly on the node tied to endings.

The firewall comes down.

This is the date that actually matters this autumn. More than the equinox. More than any single week in September. Expect the sharpest two-week selling stretch in gold and silver to run from October 31 through around November 11.

Here’s the part that should calm you down a little, though. A slower, more structural planet moved back into its own strongest zone on October 9, three weeks ahead of the break, and it stays there, bracing things, while the October 31 drop happens. That’s the difference between a sharp scare that finds a floor and a slide with no bottom in sight. This setup points to the first one. Floored shakeout, not a runaway cascade.

The Bottom Comes in Two Steps

Here’s where I got it wrong the first time. And it’s the most useful fix in this whole piece.

Stage one, November 13 to 20. The three broken supports recover, within about a week of each other. The silver-linked planet stations direct on November 14 and starts climbing back out of its weak position. First real sign the selling’s running out of gas. A relief bounce. Not a confirmed floor yet. If you’re trading it, this is where a first partial cover makes sense, not a full exit.

Stage two, December 5 to 13. The nodes shift. The structural planet turns direction after months drifting backward. This is what upgrades a bounce into an actual, durable low, and it’s when the last overhead pressure on gold specifically lifts. Second, larger tranche of any short gets covered here.

So November 11? The date I originally flagged as a buy trigger? It sits in the middle of the worst part of the drop. Three days before relief even starts. A full month before the low gets structurally confirmed. Not a floor. The peak of the danger cluster.

There’s a longer tail worth knowing too. The protective planet that leaves its strong spot on October 31 works its way back to that same spot by late January 2027, and holds it into spring. That return sets up the stronger half of the recovery, landing around April 13, 2027. Not a second dip. A launch point.

What History Rhymes With, Numbers Included

The nodes sat in this exact pairing once before. December 26, 2007 through April 30, 2008. The run-up to the financial crisis. Left a clean fingerprint on both metals.

Gold ran to its first-ever $1,000 print, $1,014.60 on March 17, 2008, then collapsed 14% in two weeks to $871.80 by March 31. Ended the window roughly 16% below its high.

Silver blew off to $21.10 on March 3, 2008, fell 20% to $16.77 by March 17, chopped lower after that, and finished the window about 24% below its high.

Distribution top, hard decline, resolution right around the node shift. Same shape this year is tracing.

One real difference though. In 2007-08, metals were still climbing when that window opened, and topped inside it. This time, gold and silver already peaked back in spring, that $4,720 gold high, that $80 silver high, and were well into decline before this window even opened in August. That’s not a fresh top forming. That’s the tail end of a decline finally running out of road. Same kind of turning point 2008 found. Just reached from further down the slope.

Gold: The Full Picture

Around $4,068 right now, 14% off the $4,720 high, trend down. Roughest stretch lands October 31 through November 11, right after the firewall breaks and before any of the three supports recover. First relief hits mid-November, the 13th through the 20th, when the silver-linked planet and the mechanism-linked planet both turn direct. The move that counts as a confirmed low doesn’t land until December 5 to 13. After that? Expect a grind higher, not a fresh low, building into the stronger recovery leg around April 13, 2027.

Silver: The Full Picture

Around $58.70, 27% off the $80 high, the deepest damage of the two metals. That extra weakness traces directly to the planet tied to silver personally, stalling and reversing on October 2. Same sharp-pain window as gold, October 31 to November 11. First relief around November 14, when that planet turns direct and starts climbing back out. Same December 5-13 confirmation completes the picture. This is the more aggressive short of the two. More room to fall before it’s done.

Bitcoin: The Bias

No full historical match here, Bitcoin didn’t exist the last time this node setup occurred. But its own short history isn’t a blank page either. Bitcoin’s biggest tops have lined up with a heavy planet meeting the endings node, and that’s exactly what happens October 31 this year. Caution flag. Not a green light. Highest-risk stretch runs October 31 through roughly November 14. Any rally in that window? Treat it as distribution, not a trend change.

The Setup, Without the Jargon

New Moon hit at 9:43 UTC on Tuesday, July 14 (3:13 PM in India), with the Sun and Moon meeting in the last degrees of Gemini. On its own, that’s a fairly quiet placement. The Moon’s day-to-day speed is normal, not the fast or slow extreme that tends to push markets around, so I’m not expecting fireworks on the New Moon day itself. If anything, the Panchang for that day carries a slightly flat, undistinguished quality. Don’t read too much into July 14 in either direction.

The real story starts two days later. On July 16, the Sun moves into Cancer, joining Jupiter, which is sitting in its own strongest possible placement in that sign, in the Pushya nakshatra. Pushya has a long-standing reputation in Vedic timing as one of the most favorable placements a planet can occupy, and Jupiter camping there for the whole cycle is the backbone of almost every bullish call in this report. When traders and old-school Panchang followers talk about “Guru Pushya” being active, this is what they mean: Jupiter strong, in a nakshatra built for growth and accumulation. It’s the reason equities get the benefit of the doubt for the next two weeks.

Two other things matter for timing. Mercury is retrograde, sitting close to the Sun, and won’t turn direct until July 23 or 24. Until then, treat any sharp or emotional narrative shift in fast-moving assets, especially tech and crypto, with suspicion. Clarity comes back in the final week, not before.

Saturn is also sitting almost still in Pisces this week, which in this framework means whatever Saturn touches gets amplified for about five days on either side, structural, patient, slow to resolve. It doesn’t override the Jupiter story. It just means the floor being built underneath markets right now is a real one, not a bounce that evaporates in a day.

Last piece: a solar eclipse lands August 12, and its influence starts bleeding in from the Full Moon on July 29. I’ll flag this again at the end, but plan your position sizing with that date already in mind.

The Full Moon went exact at 23:56 UTC on June 29. By that point, most equity desks were already closed. COMEX metals and Bitcoin took the hit first.

What I want to walk through is not just this Full Moon in isolation. The more interesting story is what is sitting in the background right now across every market, and why a planetary combination that has not appeared since 1991 is setting the tone for the next two to four months.

Some assets have clear support from this. Others are facing hard blocks. A few are getting directly contradictory signals that require careful position sizing. Let me go through it market by market.

The Background Signal Everyone Should Know About

Jupiter is exalted in Cancer right now. It entered Cancer on June 2 and moved into Pushya nakshatra on June 18.

Jupiter exalted in Cancer plus Jupiter in Pushya simultaneously is called Guru Pushya Yoga. The last time this combination appeared was 1991. That year marked a significant equity market turning point that preceded a multi-year bull run.

This combination does not mean everything goes up every day. What it does mean is that the planetary backing for conventional assets, particularly equities and eventually gold, is at maximum strength for the next several months.

It also has a direct inverse effect on Bitcoin. More on that in the crypto section.

The Full Moon itself reads as neutral directionally. No planet was within 8 degrees of the Moon at the exact moment it peaked. The Sun’s dignity in Gemini is neutral, not strong. So the FM is not adding a directional push either way. What carries weight is the background configuration, and that is Jupiter.

People love hating Mercury retrograde. Three weeks of missed emails, delayed flights, and bad decisions. Tech Twitter goes quiet. Crypto Twitter panics. Financial Twitter mostly ignores it.

But here is the thing. I have been running this analysis since the last time this specific configuration showed up, and I can tell you that this retrograde is not the one to ignore. Not if you hold Nifty, gold, silver, or any of the other markets I cover here.

The reason comes down to one word: Punarvasu.

More on that in a second. First, let me put the rarity of this setup in context, because I think it changes how you think about the next 25 days.

What Punarvasu Is (Plain English Version)

In Vedic astrology, the sky is divided into 27 nakshatras. Think of them as specific zones of the sky, each with its own personality, history, and market signature. Most people who follow this work know a few of them: Pushya, Rohini, Ashwini. Punarvasu tends to fly under the radar.

Its symbol is a quiver of arrows. The idea behind it is direct: the arrows were released, and now they return. The Sanskrit root confirms this: Puna means again, Vasu means light, wealth, excellence. Put them together and you get “the return of wealth.” That is the literal translation of the nakshatra where Mercury is spending all 25 days of this retrograde.

Punarvasu sits at the border of Gemini and Cancer. Two very different signs with very different market meanings. Gemini rules ideas, communication, short-term speculation. Cancer rules sentiment, safe-haven flows, and emotional money. Punarvasu straddles both.

Its ruling planet is Jupiter. And that detail matters more than almost anything else in this analysis.

Why This Setup Has Not Happened Since 1990

Mercury retrograde touches Punarvasu roughly every 6-7 years. But “touching” it and staying inside it for the entire arcare two completely different things.

I went back through the ephemeris to 1990 and checked every instance where Mercury’s retrograde arc touched Punarvasu’s narrow 13-degree span. There were six prior instances. In every single one of them, only one of Mercury’s two stations (the point where it stops and reverses direction) fell inside Punarvasu. The other station always landed outside it, either in Pushya deeper in Cancer, or in Ardra on the Gemini side.

This year is different. Mercury stations retrograde on June 30 at Cancer 2°, well inside Punarvasu. It crosses back into Gemini on July 8 and stations direct on July 24 at Gemini 22°, also inside Punarvasu. The entire 25-day arc, both turning points included, stays within Punarvasu’s span.

That has not happened once in the last 36 years of data.

The practical implication: the nakshatra’s signal is not diluted by one station happening elsewhere. The full retrograde is “signed” by Punarvasu’s character, which is the return of wealth and the resumption of interrupted trends.

The Jupiter Factor: Why 2026 Is Exceptional Even Among Rare Events

Here is what takes this from rare to genuinely unusual.

At the exact moment Mercury turns retrograde on June 30, Jupiter is sitting at Cancer 5°, just 3.7 degrees away. That is close enough to count as a conjunction.

Jupiter in Cancer is what Vedic astrology calls exalted. Exaltation means the planet is functioning at the top of its range. Cancer is where Jupiter’s qualities of wisdom, expansion, and abundance work most freely. It is arguably Jupiter’s single most powerful placement in the zodiac.

So what you have on June 30 is: Mercury (the planet of markets, trade, and information flow) turning backward, conjunct Jupiter at its strongest, inside the nakshatra of the return of wealth.

The classical read on this combination is that any early confusion or price reversal gives way to a more considered, fundamentals-driven move. The “second look” that happens during any retrograde gets filtered through Jupiter’s judgment in this case. Jupiter in Cancer is not known for panic selling.

This is not a collapse setup. It is a deep-breath-before-the-next-move setup.

Market by Market: What the Data Shows

I am going to cover each instrument separately with the relevant historical data and the current signal picture. This is a free-tier article, so directional bias only, no specific entry zones or price levels. Those go to paid subscribers.

Nifty 50: The Strongest Directional Call in This Window

The historical record for Nifty during Mercury Rx in Punarvasu is tight but consistent.

When Mercury’s retrograde station fell inside Punarvasu (2013 and 2020), Nifty delivered +6.1% and +5.4% respectively during the retrograde window. When Mercury’s retrograde station fell outside Punarvasu, deeper in Cancer at Pushya (2019), Nifty dropped 5%.

The station location is the key variable. This year it lands at Cancer 2°, squarely inside Punarvasu, matching the 2013/2020 setup exactly.

The planetary signal for Nifty is running at its strongest reading in recent cycles. An additional overlay from the current Jupiter exaltation period suppresses aggressive sell signals for equities. The interpretation is that institutional-level buying bias is structurally present while Jupiter remains exalted in Cancer.

Directional bias: Bullish during the retrograde, June 30 to July 24. Two dates worth marking: July 5-6 (signal peaks) and July 20-23 (second peak). Both are windows where the underlying signal hits its highest reading.

Post-July 24 caution is warranted. Both 2013 and 2020 showed Nifty giving back gains in the week following Mercury’s direct station. That pullback, if it comes, is likely a re-entry window rather than a trend reversal.

Try This: If you track Nifty, add July 5-6 and July 20-23 to your watch list now. Those are the windows where the signal clusters highest. Post-July 24 softness, if it shows up, has historically been temporary.

BankNifty: The Outlier

BankNifty is the clearest contra-signal in this window.

The signal for banking names sits at a weak negative reading throughout the retrograde period, improving only slightly around July 24 as Mercury approaches its direct station. BankNifty has been trailing Nifty in the current macro cycle and nothing in this retrograde configuration changes that picture.

Historical instances of Mercury Rx in Punarvasu do not show the same bullish pattern for banking names that they show for broader Nifty. The two tend to diverge during this configuration.

Directional bias: Neutral to mild underperformance versus Nifty. If you are long BankNifty relative to Nifty, this is a period to watch that spread carefully. The gap between the two may narrow somewhat around July 24 when the banking signal shows a modest improvement.

S&P 500: Constructive, But Watch the Exit

Five of six historical instances showed the S&P 500 flat to positive during Mercury Rx in Punarvasu. The one exception (2019 at -0.8%) was again the “wrong station” instance where Mercury turned retrograde outside Punarvasu.

Average return across the five positive instances: +2.4% during the retrograde window.

The post-direct pattern for US equities is worth noting: 2000, 2006, and 2013 all showed a short pullback in the week after Mercury turned direct. 2020 was the exception (continued higher). The base case here is that the retrograde itself is constructive, but the direct station on July 24 introduces a short-term wobble risk.

The current Jupiter exaltation overlay for global equities is active and adds a layer of support to the bullish call. The signal context suppresses aggressive sell setups while Jupiter remains in Cancer.

Directional bias: Upward bias during the retrograde. Mild reversal risk in the first week after July 24. If you are managing a US equity position, the zone around July 24 is worth watching for short-term softness.

Gold: Bullish, With an Important Update From My Earlier Draft

Gold is 4 for 4 positive during Mercury Rx in Punarvasu across every measured instance since 2006.

Returns: +1.1% (2006), +10.3% (2013), +1.7% (2019), +3.7% (2020). Average: +4.2%. The 2013 instance, which produced the +10.3% move, also featured a strong Jupiter. The closest analog to 2026.

Mars in Taurus throughout the entire retrograde window adds a moderate bullish overlay for gold, an earth sign, Venus-ruled, with material accumulation energy. That was not in my first draft.

Venus entering Leo on July 5 (not July 8 as I originally stated; that date was wrong) adds another bullish layer for gold. Leo is gold’s sign in classical Vedic astrology, and Venus as the ruler of luxury assets moving into Leo historically increases gold demand. This signal activates July 5 and runs through the end of the retrograde.

What that means: the bearish counter-signal that activates July 8 (Mercury in Gemini) is now more than offset by two additional bullish signals running simultaneously. The net picture for gold is more bullish than I described in my first draft, not just “floor with chop.”

There is still some choppiness expected between July 8 and July 20 as the counter-signals wrestle. But then on July 20, the Sun moves into Pushya. That triggers a strong bullish signal for gold that runs into the direct station and beyond.

Directional bias: Bullish throughout. Choppy patch expected July 8-20. Cleaner directional move from July 20 onward. The post-direct picture also looks constructive. 2019 showed +5.4% in the week after Mercury turned direct.

Try This: Mark July 8 and July 20 as the two pivot dates for gold. If there is a dip between those dates, the signal picture suggests it is noise rather than trend. The July 20 Sun-Pushya trigger is the one to watch for the cleaner move.

Silver: The Historically Strongest Instrument, With One Important Nuance

Silver’s track record during Mercury Rx in Punarvasu is the strongest of any instrument I track.

Returns: -0.1% (2006), +10.6% (2013), +7.7% (2019), +10.5% (2020). Three of four instances delivered double-digit gains during the retrograde alone. The one flat instance (2006) then surged +7.9% in the seven days after Mercury turned direct.

So across all four measured instances, silver delivered meaningful gains either during or immediately after the retrograde. Every single one.

The signal rule that applies most directly: Mercury retrograde in this configuration points to volatile price action during the window, with the final direction resolving upward after the direct station. That is the primary call.

Venus moving into Leo on July 5 activates a relative signal: when Venus is in Leo, the luxury and metals demand tends to shift toward gold specifically. Silver may still rise in absolute terms (the primary signal still says final direction up), but gold is likely to outperform silver from July 5 onward. The gold-silver ratio is expected to expand, meaning gold does more.

This does not change the absolute call for silver. It changes the relative call. If you are deciding between gold and silver for this window, the cleaner trade from July 5 onward is gold. If you are already in silver, the signal still points upward. Just expect gold to outpace it.

The cleanest silver window is after July 24 when Mercury turns direct. The Sun-Pushya signal also activates July 20, adding a second confirming signal for silver in the post-direct period. Both 2006 (+7.9%) and 2019 (+4.8%) showed the post-direct week as silver’s strongest move.

Directional bias: Absolute direction bullish. But gold outperforms silver from July 5. Post-July 24 is the cleaner silver entry window. If you have a choice between the two metals right now, gold has the edge until at least July 20-24. Silver’s turn comes after.

Try This: Watch the gold-silver ratio from July 5. If it expands (gold rising more), that matches the signal. When the ratio starts compressing again around July 24, that is historically when silver’s stronger relative move begins.

Bitcoin: Rangebound, Then a Sharp Move

The Bitcoin sample here is the smallest, only two clean prior instances.

2019: BTC fell 15.4% during the retrograde, then surged +15.1% in the seven days after Mercury turned direct. 2020: Essentially flat during the retrograde (-0.1%), mildly negative the week after.

The primary signal for BTC in this window comes from a rule with the strongest confirmation rate in the Bitcoin signal set: Jupiter exalted in Cancer historically produces BTC underperformance relative to equities. This is not a new observation. The current Jupiter exaltation cycle that started June 2 already has three prior confirmations in the data, all showing the same pattern. Institutional capital flows toward equities when Jupiter is at this strength; digital assets tend to lag.

There is an additional layer: Ketu (the south lunar node) is stationary in Magha for this entire window. The nakshatra watch data for BTC flags Magha-Ketu as a setup for sudden reversals in either direction. Think of it as elevated volatility risk, not a directional call.

The one intra-period exception worth noting: when the Moon transits Cancer each month (a roughly 2.5-day window), the Jupiter-BTC drag signal temporarily pauses. Those short windows can produce a quick counter-trend bounce. Outside those Moon-in-Cancer bursts, the drag is present.

Directional bias: Choppy to sideways, underperforming equities during the retrograde. Watch for a sharp directional move in the 7-14 days after July 24. The Ketu setup elevates the magnitude risk. Direction of that post-direct move is not confirmed by the data; the 2019 analog would be a sharp reversal up, but the sample is too small to lean on.

The Three Date Clusters That Matter

If you only look at three things over the next 25 days, make it these:

June 30: Mercury stations retrograde, conjunct Jupiter at 3.7°. The retrograde begins. This is the start of the constructive window for Nifty and S&P 500. Gold’s structural floor is active.

July 5-8: Venus enters Leo on July 5, activating the gold-over-silver relative signal. The peak equity signal fires July 5-6. Mercury crosses into Gemini on July 8, adding short-term noise to gold. Sun enters Punarvasu July 8, beginning a two-week period where both Mercury and the Sun are in the same nakshatra simultaneously. This cluster of July 5-8 is the busiest window in the retrograde.

July 20-24: The Sun enters Pushya on July 20, triggering the strong gold and silver bullish signals. The equity signal peaks again July 20-23. Mercury turns direct on July 24, resolving the silver primary signal and introducing the BTC sharp-move risk. This is the most important cluster if you are managing positions actively.

Key Takeaways

Nifty is the strongest call in this window. The 2013 and 2020 analogs are clean matches to the current setup. Peak signal windows are July 5-6 and July 20-23. Watch for mild softness after July 24.

BankNifty is the exception. Neutral at best, underperforming Nifty at worst. That spread between the two may be the most actionable divergence in Indian markets this month.

S&P 500 follows the same constructive path as Nifty, with a short wobble risk in the week after July 24.

Gold is bullish throughout. The updated signal picture is stronger than my first draft showed. July 8-20 has some noise; July 20 onward is the cleaner move.

Silver is absolutely bullish, but gold has the relative edge from July 5. The post-July 24 window is historically silver’s strongest entry point in this configuration.

Bitcoin sits out the party until Mercury turns direct. Then watch for a sharp move, magnitude more than direction.

July 24 is the single date that threads all of this together. Something shifts for almost every instrument on or just after that date.

The Bigger Picture

Punarvasu means the return of light and wealth. The arrows come back to the quiver.

What I find genuinely interesting about this setup is how many signals are pointing in the same direction at once. Jupiter at its peak strength. A retrograde that stays entirely within a constructive nakshatra. A historical record that is 4 for 4 for gold and consistently bullish for Nifty when the station falls in the right place.

Markets do not always follow planetary timing. There are always external variables, macro surprises, policy shifts. I cover the astrological signal layer, not the full picture. But when the signal is this consistent across instruments and this well-supported by the historical data, it earns more weight than usual.

The window between now and July 24 is the directional window. July 24 is where it gets interesting again.

Where each market sits technically right now:

• S&P 500, NASDAQ, Dow: Confirmed bull, but overbought (RSI 74 to 80 on the four-week chart). Better entries come on pullbacks rather than buying the current levels.

• Nifty, BankNifty: Nifty in bear-bounce territory. BankNifty is below all its moving averages. This looks discouraging on the daily chart. It is not. Markets that have corrected are exactly what Jupiter Cancer recovers on June 2. Accumulate on weakness now.

• ASX 200: In transition at 8,744. Below EMA20 and EMA50, RSI 48. Not confirmed bull yet. June 2 changes that.

• Gold: Also in transition at $4,720, below its 20-day and 50-day moving averages. Support at $4,400, resistance at $4,851. The below-EMA position heading into May 29 is exactly right; the dip is setting up as it should.

• Silver: Already a confirmed bull above all moving averages. RSI 57.8. Support $79.00, resistance $82.83. Silver is the stronger technical picture of the two metals right now.

• Bitcoin: Between its moving averages, RSI 63.3. Support $74,959, resistance $90,502. The next few weeks are the last clean window to reduce.

Jupiter is currently at 25 degrees Gemini, 24 days from Cancer. Everything you see in markets right now is the pre-launch phase. The first hard move fires on Monday, May 11.

The background context: a slow-building heaviness that suppressed market liquidity and squeezed volatility dissolved Saturday. Monday opens free of it. At the same time, Venus moved into Taurus (her own sign) on Sunday, which activates a wealth and credit expansion signal that benefits banking, metals, and financial stocks through the week. The Sun is moving toward its peak strength and hits that peak around Friday, which is also the day the Moon enters Pushya, the single most reliable accumulation signal in this framework.

The week structure is: buy Monday, be careful Tuesday, trade (not hold) the Wednesday crypto spike, add Thursday, maximum position Friday April 24.

One caution flag: signal quality for NASDAQ this week is around 65% due to Mercury’s current position. Use index-level positions (QQQ, S&P futures) rather than concentrated single-name tech bets.
